Women in the military

Introduction

Just over a decade that women were imposed in the armed forces, however, has not been adequate so far as military installations due to their proper preparation (Frampton, Scott, 2011). Institutions that do not have a clear vision of the military profile should be required to aspiring women; there is no right answer to the question of whether you want a "military woman" or a military version of masculinazada (Goldstein, Joshua, 2003). Few issues can become so controversial in the Armed Forces as the extent of participation of women in the military and the definition of defense policies (Wise, James, et al, 2006). So far, the debate has focused on issues of motherhood, breastfeeding and childcare as the supposed main impediments to the full participation of women in military affairs (Carreiras, Helena, et al, 2008).

However, having more than a decade after the incorporation of women in the armed forces is still not resolved their real status, since, although admission mean the breakdown of traditional structures considered as a natural setting of the role of the warrior male (Holmstedt, Kirsten, 2007). The expected profile of women in this role has not yet been defined that are, or is that she should assume an attitude is male or has in his military career and later formed is expected of her male behavior or is to be defined profile soldier's wife taking into account their capabilities and potential different from that of men (Jelinek, 2011).

While the changing role of women in society, in general, and in the armed forces in particular, is both timely and controversial issue in many nations. At the international level, gained attention with the participation of women in the so-called Operation Desert Storm, where about 11,000 joined the U.S. contingent of 100,000 troops in the Persian Gulf (Salmonson, Amanda, 1991). Also, the news about the first woman in the world designated commander of a submarine with a crew Norwegian composed exclusively of men, the possibility for women to reach the generals in the army of Brazil, and allegations of sexual harassment of women U.S. uniformed and even in our country, among other information, have put the subject under discussion (Weatherford, Doris, 2009).

This paper focuses on the study of the role of women in military, in order to present the fact that women have been playing an integral part in the armed forces, along with males.
