Introduction

It is obvious that everybody need correct information and knowledge to be successful in the various tasks and operations they perform. Similarly, appropriate information and knowledge is very important to operate a business successfully. The difference between information and knowledge should be identified. It has been observed that knowledge refers to systemized form of information that gives power to a person or organization to take corrective action. Knowledge could be used in the best interest of a business. It is very important to identify the correct methods to manage knowledge to make the best use of knowledge for the success of the business. Information and knowledge management systems provide a business with the best solution to manage knowledge. In today's era of business, it is very important for a business to develop and implement a knowledge management system to manage knowledge effectively to gain advantage in the competitive business world.

Knowledge management system is basically a system that involves certain practices and strategies that are used to create, identify, represent, distribute and enable an organization to adopt experiences and insights. These experiences and insights include knowledge that is incorporated in the practices and strategies of the organization for its betterment. The importance of information and knowledge management system is felt because this system enables an organization to develop efficient strategies for competition. Knowledge management system is important because it enables easy sharing of information of knowledge among the staff members of the organization and prevents loss of information. It enables efficient sharing of ideas within the organization that give rise to innovation in business processes. This innovation results in better and improved customer relationship. Overall, knowledge management is very important because it provides employees with all the relevant information to enable them to perform jobs better and increase productivity.

Managing information is a critical skill for success in today's business environment. Managers today need to know about their organisation's capabilities and uses of information as much as they need. It is no longer acceptable to delegate IS decisions to the Management Iformation System alone. General managers must be involved to both executive business plans and project options for future business vision of the organisation. All decisions made by companies involve at some level, the management and use of Information System (IS) and decisions about IS affect the profits of a business. Adopting the wrong technologies can cause a company to miss business opportunities and an inadequate IS can cause a breakdown in customer satisfaction, that affects sales.
