"Transmission of Aedes mosquitoes-Borne Diseases by Introduced Established species: A case study of dengue fever”

Introduction

Mosquitos can cause significant harm by the transmission of certain diseases to human beings.According to World Health Organization there has been an increase of around thirty new diseases in the last twenty years (1996). Further, a significant increase has occurred in re occurring of the old diseases around the world. There are many mosquito species present but there are only few who cause actual harm (Paul et al., 1998). Disease like yellow fever, dengue fever and viral encephalitis spread through mosquito bite. There has been a considerable increase in the number of deaths in poor countries where the controls for the mosquito are inadequate and climate continues to support their spread. There are a number of habitats in which mosquitos live and are able to harm both humans and pets (Health Grade, 2011). This paper will discuss the transmission of mosquito borne diseases and introduction of other established species to control it. Further, discussion of various case studies from different geographic location is discussed to understand the onset of mosquito bites and recommendation to control it all around the world.

Thesis Statement

This paper will help determine the reasons for the spread of dengue fever and the possible ways to control and limit the mosquito breeding through established specie.

Discussion

Mosquito borne diseases spread when the mosquito bites and passes its pathogen from one vertebrate host to another. The successful transmission occurs with the aggregation of vectors and vertebrate hosts (P.F.S. Liehne, 1998). In order for the disease to spread in human it is essential to have a close association of the vector with the man. The natural cycle for zoonosis involves the vector and the host and he may get infected when he enters this cycle by mistake. The emergence of mosquito borne diseases and viruses are responsible for many of the world's most harmful diseases. They mostly affect the poor communities around the world in places where the health facilities are inadequate. They give rise to major public health challenge and it becomes an issue for the whole region (Steven, 2010). There are certain biological control techniques which aim at controlling the spread of this mosquito population and transmission of the disease. It becomes especially important in areas where the use of chemical insecticides is fail.

The Emergent of vector borne disease, Dengue Fever by AedesaegyptiMosqquito

The increase of vector borne disease has become a global health issue (Gubler, 2002). There were success in controlling these epidemics in the past, the Aedesaegypti eradication program was able to effectively control diseases such as the yellow fever and Dengue fever, and however in the 1970s they were no longer considered high level problems for public health (Wilson, 2005, IOM, 1992). Further, the insecticides used for effectively controlling the disease were replaced by less effective chemicals and sprays to control the adult ...
