Introduction

At a time, when the work has changed direction and reorganization, where competition has become global, the motivation of staff at all levels of the company becomes a priority issue. Leaders are more than ever obliged to take into account the motivation of employees.

First, the work is getting more complicated because of the changing socio-economic development. It becomes less important in the eyes of employees, who somehow become spectators of their activity, the more that player; they see their margins diminish intelligence. Then, it is important to take into account the recent situation of competitiveness, which places employees at the centre of improving productivity, making motivation a key factor in the success of the company. Finally, globalization, mergers, acquisitions and the extent of multinationals is increasingly felt. It is more difficult today to employees of acquired firms to adapt to new policies imposed on them, and feel a sense of belonging to a large group, they are unfamiliar. They lose their bearings, sometimes feel devalued, this leads to demotivation (King, 2010, 18).

The motivation of employees is now a key factor in business success. To better understand all facets of motivation, it seems essential to try to define it in different approaches and to better understand the various theories advanced to today on this subject. Indeed, this notion of motivation, involved aspects of psychological, sociological, philosophical and organizational. Today, research is still carried out, they focus specifically on the role of personality, the environment of each, and the impact it can have on motivation.

In view of these theories, we can ask how leaders motivate their employees today. In a changing economic environment, they need to adapt the language used for employees, according to the constraints, challenges, and expectations of increasingly demanding employees. The leaders are now trying to change the spots to make them motivating. They also change their management, applying concepts of participative management, encouraging the delegation, by strengthening the team spirit, loyalty to employees. Finally, they reinforce their corporate culture to enhance cohesion between employees and the company (King, 2010, 18).
