Hollywood has been flooded in recent months by a group of filmmakers of color claiming rights through a certain way: brilliant film products. The success of films like Do the Right Thing, New Jack City and “Boyz n the Hood” youth enthroned as John Singleton, Mario Van Peebles, Bill Duke, Charles Burnett (never go to bed angry), Charles Lane and Spike Lee, Singleton or any of the other filmmakers say that they certainly are dedicated to explaining what is happening and what they saw with their own eyes. Such reviews cannot ignore the reality disguise in this movie that is the ignorance of law enforcement that creates strain, differential association, and social disorganization. This paper discusses how the theories of strain, social disorganization, control and social interaction can be related to the movie “Boys and the hood”.

Discussion

The concept of Social Disorganization, Anomie/Strain, Differential association, Control and Social Interaction theories apply to the theme of the movie in a way that the film largely deals with the unstoppable violence that affects the urban life. All these theories suggest that the indifference of law enforcement crate strain in the society which lead to the behavior s which are self fulfilling and self justifying. The plot is set in Los Angeles. The neighborhood is violent that is exactly related to the concept of social disorganization (Lemert, 2009).
