INTRODUCTION

Background

MSDs are a serious occupational health problem worldwide, affecting millions of workers in Europe. Beyond the human suffering they are causing functional deficits hindering the work. They constitute, therefore, a significant economic burden to society both because it is the most common occupational diseases but also because they are the cause of high absenteeism and therefore a loss of efficiency for the company (replacement, loss of quality and productivity, disruptions in the organization of work). MSD develop due to repetitive, forceful or binding that affect the joints, ligaments and other soft tissues (Viikari 2003,p. 9). They include lumbar strain, whiplash, tendonitis, the syndrome carpal tunnel syndrome and rotator cuff pain syndrome side of the elbow.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Schrijvers (2008, p. 10) describes that the musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the leading occupational disease. Pain associated with MSDs affect 15% of women 20 to 59 years and 11% of men working in a company, according to a study by the Institute of Health Surveillance (InVS). However, solutions exist to limit the exposure of employees.

Cervical or lumbar pain, sore wrist, tingling in the fingers, tendonitis of the elbow or shoulder musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the most important concerns in occupational health. These conditions can lead to severe disability, the leading cause of occupational disease compensable, according to a study. In 2008, TMS 40000 were compensated for occupational diseases by Social Security (Merlino 2003,p. 64).
