The philosophy of caring

Caring begins with being present, open to compassion, mercy, gentleness, loving-kindness, and equanimity toward oneself before one can offer compassionate caring to others. It begins with love of humanity and everything that is living, the impermanence and changes but actively, joyfully participating in all of it, such as the pain, the joy, and everything that comes along.

Thus, the reason I want to take up this profession is because I believe in the saying “Treat others as you would like to be treated”. The responsibilities of a CNA can include different things. It is required by the state to take an exam to become a CNA and must have an FBI background check before you graduate.

In other words, depending on your state of residency CNA's, Nurses Aides, Patient Care Technicians, Home Health Aides are called differently.

Job description

A long term facility is needed, where people who are discharged from an acute care no longer need the specialized care provided. However, they need skilled care and are ready to go home upon doctor's order. Long term facilities employ many nursing assistants who play a vital role in the success of the care given.

In addition, the person cared for a long term is called a 'resident' as the facility becomes their home for an extended period which could be for weeks or for months as the resident is restored to health. In some cases, the facility may become the residents' permanent home. There are different types of long term facilities such as:

Nursing home, Nursing facility (NF) Intermediate care facility (ICF), skilled nursing, rehabilitation center, assisted living, Alzheimer's care center. Where I work is known to be a nursing home.

Equally important, at the nursing home, we provide physical care, emotional care, help with daily activities such as bathing, grooming, brushing the resident teeth, comb their hair, make up their beds, and to feed those who are unable to. We also render services of restorative care, safety and security, opportunities for social interaction as well as spiritual/ religious activities.

The resident's room

The resident room may be called a resident unit. Their rooms have an adjustable bed, over bed table; chair, waste basket, privacy curtain, and a storage area were all residents put their belongings that were brought from home. Their rooms may be designed for occupancy by a single individual but usually accommodates two persons but in some instances, several residents shared a single room and some residents who will be making the facility their home are encouraged to bring personal articles as space permits.
