NETWORKING

Introduction

Various components of a computer network are as follows: hardware, software and protocols. The physical elements are classified into two groups: end-user devices (hosts) and network devices. The end-user devices includes computers, printers, scanners, and other elements that provide services directly to the user and the second are those that connect to end-user devices, allowing intercommunication (Sosinsky, 2009, pp. 760).

The purpose of a network is to interconnect the hardware components of a network, and therefore mainly the computers individual, also called hosts, the teams that make services on the network, the servers , using wired or wireless technology electronics carried by the network and connected by cabling or radio frequency. In all cases the network card can be considered the primary element, whether it is part of a computer, a switch, a printer, etc. and be it technology (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.)

Classification of computer networks

A local area network, local area network or LAN is the interconnection of one or more computers and peripherals. Its extension is physically limited to a building or an environment of 200 meters with repeaters could reach a distance of 1 kilometer field. Its wider application is the interconnection of personal computers and workstations in offices, factories, etc.

In a company there are often many interconnected computers, which need their own printer to print reports (redundant hardware), data stored in one of the teams is likely to be needed in another computer company, so you will need to copy them in this, being able to produce data gaps between two users, the occupation of disk storage resources multiply (data redundancy), computers that work with the same data should have the same programs to handle such data (redundancy software), etc.. The solution to these problems is called local area network, this allows sharing databases (eliminating data redundancy), software (eliminating the redundancy of software ) and peripherals such as a modem , a card ISDN , a printer , etc. (Eliminating the redundant hardware ), making available to us other media such as the e-mail and Chat . It allows us to perform a distributed process, i.e., the tasks can be distributed in different nodes and allows the integration of processes and data each user in a corporate job. Being able to centralize information or procedures eases administration and management teams (Blokdijk, 2008, pp. 18).

Also a local area network involves a considerable saving of both time and is achieved information management and labor, and money, it is not necessary to buy many peripherals, less paper is consumed, and in connection Internet can use a single dial-up or broadband shared by several computers networked.

A wide area network, often called WAN is a type of computer network capable of covering distances from about 100 to about 1000 km, providing service to a country or a ...
