Nursing: A Lifelong Learning Opportunity in Today's World

Introduction

The essay focuses on those learning opportunities that the profession of nursing is providing to young people who may wish to pursue it. In my personal response to the subject matter, the essay outlines the attributes and personal qualities that can be useful while preparing for the profession of nursing. Furthermore, the essay discusses the possible impact of graduate degree on my future career goals in aligned with self-driven definitions of certain terminologies.

Discussion

Since the creation of this world, man has been striving to explore the hidden secrets of this universe. In the field of medical and biological sciences, evolution came around the professional practitioners and care providers who were commonly known as nurses and were required to assist professional doctors. However, the evolution process and the theme of globalization brought changes in the world's perspective of nursing which is now seen as an emerging profession with tremendous learning opportunities.

Nursing is a profession that will require close contact between the recipient of care and the nurse. A nurse shall be compassionate and committed to the profession with empathy and emotional stability that will enable one to deal with uncertain or unanticipated outcomes (Nursegroups, 2013). Major attributes that can lead effective preparation for nursing will include communication skills with patience to listen; flexibility to manage the responsibilities of caring, physical endurance to perform numerous taxing maneuvers as a typical work. Personal attributes and qualities that will require development might be quick response, respect for others, problem solving and decision making skills with good attention to details. Additionally, the preparation for the nursing profession will require a graduate degree in nursing with physical and mental fitness (Sivamalai, 2008).
