Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the nursing process. Moreover, the usefulness of this process to nurses and clients in a hospital based setting will be explored.

Discussion

The process of nursing is known to be a procedure of science. The process of nursing basically starts with taking clinical judgments to provide a balance between research evidence present in the particular diseases and nurse's own personal understanding of the situations. Critical thinking has been given extreme importance in the field of nursing. The basic job description of nurses is to provide the best possible care and environment to their patients which help them improve their conditions in a more rapid manner. Theories of nursing are different from the nursing process (Bradshaw, Lowenstein, 2010). The basic nursing process was initially given by Ida Jean Orlando in 1958 which will be discussed later. Being a good practicing nurse requires various knowledge patterns. Nursing process basically deals with providing the best care in an organized manner. Experienced nurses give importance to their intuitions in order to provide judgmental care setting.

The nursing process tends to create unity in the varied types of nurses who are working in different areas of the field. The primary motive of every nurse has to be delivering care which is patient focused and holistic in nature. The nursing process is used in the field of medical in order to evaluate the needs of clients ultimately resulting in developing courses of actions which are critical to solve the problems related to patients. Nurses need to focus on the usage of evidence that is scientifically reliable while providing care to the patients. Resident nurses are usually supposed to be over viewing the entire nursing process; however every nurse has a responsibility to follow the process when providing care to the patients.

The nursing process provided by Ida Jean Orlando consists of five basic steps which are assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation (www.nursingworld.org). All these phases require various set of actions to provide streamline care to patients. The process can also be used to develop frameworks which help in creating plans for specific care needs according to the requirements of each patient. The process helps in ensuring the better provision of health care which is of best quality. Now let us explore the each step in detail.

Assessment

The first step in providing quality nursing care is to use systematic and dynamic ways of collecting and analyzing data about the patients. This step includes getting data about everything related to the patient like his physiological data, information about patient's life style, psychological and even financial information. All this information gathered help nurses to understand the position of patients in a better way. Psychological perspective and other issues help nurses knowing the patient better thus resulting in making care plans accordingly.
