Introduction

Obesity - a consequence of modern lifestyles. Simply speaking, it occurs when energy intake exceeds the body in its spending. Causes of this balance are varied and depend on the nature of food and nutrition, as well as on lifestyle. Yet nutrition in the development of obesity belongs to the leading role. The most important food in this regard is milk, as it provides required quantity of nutrition. Porridge is another source of nutrition for children at an early age. The third most important element is the kind of food children consume as they grow. It is essential for children to consume all kinds of food and not limit their consumption to certain items. The diet of children should include various sources of healthy nutrition. Besides helping children in selecting the right kind of food, parents should also look to teach to share. Children must learn to share their food and eat together at the table (Wang & Lobstein, 2006, pp. 357).

Doctors recommend that children should not eat while watching television. It is also necessary to limit the number of hours the child spends watching television. This would allow the child to engage into physical activities and burn unnecessary calories. Since children spend most of their childhood with their parents, they adopt their eating habits. Parents who are obese are more likely to have their children following their eating patterns. In a similar way, non-obese children will follow their parents' eating habits. In order to prevent obesity in children, parents should look to the eating patterns of the entire family. Physical exercise in children should be encouraged such as football or gymnasium.
