Introduction

The core idea of the theory revolves around the fact which portrays human beings as the actors, actor here implies to the idea that human beings continuously are struggling to render actions or struggling to give an impression of oneself which in reality is a complete contrast of the individual personality or sometimes the difference between the two extends to a certain degree. Human beings possess a quality from the early stages of their life which translates into indicating certain facts around them, thus making human beings receptive to conditions. From the very early stages of their life people as actors improvises, to the fact that they are in constant inspection by the people around them. Therefore, breaking the laws which exists in the surroundings would highlight them as being different from the crowd, which sometimes can act as a threat to the existence of the actor in the society (Goffman, 1959, pp.15).

Translation

Living in a world where nothing is permanent and the change is thus the only factor around those actors which remain intact for much longer time maybe more than their role in society. Therefore, to minimize the dents on this fragile character the individual which is also playing himself as an actor in order to survive in this world, adopts the tools and techniques known as impression management. The tool of Impression management suggests that the humans, who by default are actors, must be ready to perform or indulge into any character, anytime as demanded by the other performers or the society in general (Scheff, 1999, pp.5). This act of theirs would transform them from their status of being, default actors to the true actors in the context of the theatrics. However, this act of them, which will transpire, into theatrical performance will enable them to present a persuading image of not only themselves but also of their co-performers in any interaction or action in general (Goffman, 1959, pp.25). However, this ability of theirs would also be reflected in the audiences which as per the theory are playing or constituting the image of the society. Goffman suggests that both men and women are the actors which are struggling to get in the character of those roles considered as being conformist. In their struggle of being someone who they are not, in other words they are not only trying to dodge themselves but also the society as a whole or the audience. The conformist psychologists, who belonged to the era of the first quarter of the 20th century tried continuously to uncover the covered ideas and thoughts which constitutes into the development of human nature and the action which they tend to perform in front of audiences.
