Introduction

Occupational hygiene forms a body of knowledge and techniques dedicated to recognize, assess and control environmental factors at work that can cause diseases or deteriorate health (Alli 2001, p. 87). A practising professional in the field can ensure that these techniques are properly followed at the workplace. Depending on the task being performed, the practitioner must use different protection elements directly related to safety, gloves, goggles, shoes, safety ropes, and clothing appropriate for the task at hand. The proper use of safety features helps to improve the daily performance of the worker and health care.

Protection

Preventing disease and injury is a shared responsibility between workers and employers. However, it is an obligation for companies to provide materials in good condition, and clothing for the activity to the professionals. Professionals on their side should give the correct value for work items.
