ODD/ED/ADHD and criminal activity

Introduction

Prior research has established a strong link between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and criminal behaviour. The primary purpose of this research is to examine the validity of the life-course model of social control as an explanation of the relationship between ADHD and criminal behavior. Opposition Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are common neurological syndromes characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention, inadequate for the degree of child development. Problem behavior is more common during childhood, is a chronic disease most common school period and is a complex problem because it appears at an early age, and affects in the child's daily life and the likelihood that persistent throughout life. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurobehavioral disorder among schoolchildren (Babinski 1999 347-355). It may persist into adulthood and affect performance in the academic, social, occupational and familial spheres, and increase the use and abuse of alcohol and psychoactive substances and the risk of having an accident. There is also some evidence that ADHD people are also affected by Erectile Dysfunction (ED) at some stage of the disease. Adults with ADHD have difficulties attending to tasks and activities and inhibiting their impulses. They have poor concentration for short, focused work and poor ability to sustain attention over a long period. They act without thinking, which often results in reckless and impetuous behavior. Impulsiveness may be an important defining characteristic of ADHD in young adulthood. Although they do not necessarily present with the overactive behavior frequently seen in children, they fed subjectively restless (Eme 2008 174). This means an individual may act without reflection or consideration for the consequences or action; they may be disorganized and forgetful and have planning deficits and poor time management skills. Impetuous and novelty-seeking behavior may result in criminal acts, substance misuse, and dependence.

Literature Review

People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Oppositional Deficit Disorder (ODD) have difficulty concentrating, performing simplest of tasks such as trouble staying up or waiting their turn. Caretakers and families play a crucial role in the ADHD affected people. Given the association between impulsivity and aggression, studies of the possible relationship between ADHD and aggression have been conducted, yielding mixed results. Some of the confusion regarding the degree to which ADHD is related to aggression stems from the co-occurrence of other conditions, such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder. In a review, Pliszka (1998) concludes that ADHD is a heterogeneous disorder and that ADHD with conduct disorder may represent a distinct subtype. He notes further that children who are diagnosed with ADHD, conduct disorder, and reading disabilities are especially prone to antisocial behavior later in life. While it may be difficult to sort out the effect of ADHD from that of other conditions, the reduced inhibition associated with ADIID may extend to more general difficulties such as regulating aggression, frustration, and mood (Harpin 2005 90). While the impulsivity seen in children with ADHD may lead to difficulties with ...
