Open Innovation and Bass Model Application

Introduction

Nowadays the most common system which supports innovation is the laws of intellectual property. This system involves the grant of a legal monopoly that gives the owner the privilege of using the results derived from their exclusive marketing for a period of time. The patent and copyright have become this way best, when measuring innovation in an organization or region. However, despite that this system is in operation for over 200 years are finding new models of innovation such as open innovation beginning to prevail in different industries such as music, film, publishing and software.

Open Innovation Open innovation is spreading among organizations and enterprises as a new way of understanding innovation and markets. The novelty of this is that it no longer seeks to protect inventions or intellectual elements through patents and copyright, but through a culture of innovation that transcends and goes beyond business involving more external agents such as technology centers, universities, companies and other competitors resulting in what is known as collective intelligence (Henry, 2006, p.66). The basis of this form of innovation, collaboration and lies in the idea that it is easier to disruptive innovations and hybridization with the participation of the experiences produced in different sectors, organizations and individuals. That is, the crucible of experience outside the usual areas of the organization is the engine for the new innovation and is thus a separate set of people or organizations get the benefits of working together, especially for small organizations.

When we talk about open innovation, the clearest sign known to the public in this way to innovate is that what we know as free software. That software licenses whose use no payment and its source code is open to any developer who can contribute and benefit from the work of other developers.

Perhaps the traditional model of innovation is an idea of wanting to maintain everything under control, perhaps a way to protect intellectual property and classical model of competitiveness, obsolete, which apparently is no longer governed only by the inventions from a company, but now is valid to think, contribute and develop innovation that comes from different sources as innovation centers, universities and individuals themselves (Henry, 2006, p.66). In traditional innovation systems the goal is to have the best experts working in the organization, so if we want to innovate in necessarily marketing experts need to the best state ...
