Unit 7 - Discussion

(1)

Organization that has been selected for discussion in this section is Health Clinic/Hospital.

(2)

Forecasting of hospital is based on the number of patients visit to hospital and number of doctors and hospital staff required to manage the patients in given time. In order to forecast, specific variables that would be needed by hospital are as follows:

Prevalence of disease/havoc in society

Number of patient visits in same month in past years

Impact of change in service prices on patients visit

Population in Town

These variables have been selected for the forecasting for hospital. Disease prevalence has been selected because hospital management staff needs will increase any havoc (such as Dengue Fever) spread in an area. Additionally, historical number of patients visit data (seasonal/month wise) will enable in forecasting the patients visit with respect to changes in season (Coile, 2003). Increase in services prices may also result in reducing the forecasting ratio. Inclusively, change in population of a town should be included in analysis with respect to total number of hospital/clinics present in town.

(3)

Short-Range Forecasting

Prevalence of disease/havoc in society

Number of patient visits in same month in past years

Impact of change in service prices on patients visit

Short-term changes in prices can be made to maintain competitive position of hospital in the market. Havoc also spread out for a short-term period; and number of patients visit change every month. Therefore, these variables have been included for short-term forecasting.

Long-Range Forecasting

Population in Town

Number of patient visits in same month in past years

Expected change in population with respect to city/town development will provide a long-term forecasting measure. Hospital can plan to offer services based on the expected increase in the population volume in next five or ten years. Longitudinal data of historical monthly patients visit can also enable the hospital to manage the hospital staff needs in long-run, mainly of permanent employees (Coile, 2003).

The ERP systems of the company (enterprise resource planning) are systems that integrate information management and automate many of the business practices associated with the operational aspects of a business or production. The main function of material requirements planning is to ensure the availability of material (Grant, 2003).  Manufacturers use it for managing the supply of material in required quantities on time for domestic and commercial purposes.

ERP-system provides a high level of data reliability. Implementation of the ERP and MRP in manufacturing processes helps in achieving efficiency and obtaining necessary information for all departments. Effective implementation of these programs in manufacturing processes provides a robust level of protection against unauthorized acquisition and data leaks. In the ERP-system automates all the major and minor business processes including financial accounting and distribution, production and logistics, personnel management and customer relationship management (Shields, 2001).  Therefore, combined implementation of ERP and MRP are a comprehensive suit for managing the resource planning needs of manufacturing processes. Other pursuits are also available for managing the needs of manufacturing process. However, each program serves only a specific task.
