Business Process of Dublin Airport

Introduction

The paper is based on the business process activities of Dublin Airport Authority, which specifically focuses on one of the key area of DAA that is Arrivals, Departures, Car parks and Securities. The major focus of the study will be on the business processes of the DAA through the research based on the different departments of airport.

Background

The organization provides its services in the operation and development, investment activities in airport, international and domestic retail management in airport and airport management. Moreover, the domestic operation of the Dublin Airport entails of the management of Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports. The company employs approximately 3500 people and the head quarter of the company is in Dublin, Ireland.

The Dublin Airport is operating in various different countries that include Ukraine, Russia, Ireland, Canada and Bahrain. In 2011, the total revenue of the Dublin Airport was about $ 776.5 million which was less than the revenues in 2010 fiscal year. Besides it, in 2011, the operating profit of the company was about $ 80.4 million in, which was less than the operating profit of 20.4 in comparison to fiscal year 2010. Moreover, in 2011 fiscal year, the net profit was about $ 42.1 million, which was 8.8% less than the net profit in 2010.

Major Products and Services

Dublin Airport is an airport management company, based in Ireland. The key activities of organization entail the activities that include airport investments; development and operation of international and domestic airports retail management service; management of airports; and also the operating duty paid and duty free retail outlets at airports.

The Current Process Design

The business activities of Dublin Airport are grouped into processes. This organizational model allows the DAA to work more agile and achieve excellence in results. It is a shared model among the departments of DAA, which facilitates the understanding and interaction of different activities of business. Currently, the Dublin Airport Authority is working on following process, from which it is expected that the company will probably make new records of quality service, innovation and profits:

The above figure is an an extended architecture of Dublin airport. It reveals all the department and shows the currect process design (T2 Dublin Airport in Dublin, 2012). Here, the The two parts of the terminal are joined by a bridge with a simple elegant roof which unifies the architectural form. The two curved planar forms placed back respond to the site allowing daylight in and views out through the north and south elevations and the flowing lines of the roof structure and metal skin make subtle reference to the dynamic shape of aircrafts.
