Introduction of Corporation

FRS Global Corporation is a global entity which deals in Financial Services. The corporation receives resumes from service seekers through e-mail and manually gathers data about them by taking hard copies of those resumes. Few months ago they tried to develop an online database which can be accessed by all of their branches but it failed due to some reasons. Every branch does have a local database which contains their own data. But it is not effective at all because online recruitment is the same for all the branches with out any differentiation. It is clear that the FRS Global Corporation wants to improve it's communication between its branches as well as they want to link main database with the local branches so that they make sense of it all. They tried it by developing local databases for all the branches but that project failed.

Problem Definition

Top executives of FRS Global Corporation want to link main recruitment database with all the branches so that all of them share their information at the same platform. At the other hand they don't have any single database which links them all for information update purposes.

They are receiving resumes through e-mail in real time and arrange them in their manual information system after printing their hard copies. There is another point which we should keep in mind, management receives resumes from the different countries at the same office but when they submit that information in their manual system, they arrange them according to the regional basis. That causes main problem in the flow of information in the system. After it , they again submit that manual data into their local database according to the qualification of the person in their respective fields. So, in short according to their needs of operations, we can say that,“The main database should break apart according to the location field and then distribute among different branches. After receiving the data, those branches should be able to sort data according to the qualification of the service seeker.”

It is true that most of the functions of operations management are based on the assumption that there is only one concern and that is the manufacturing process. The basic ideal for designing the operation management was manufacturing industries. Nevertheless, as service industry has evolved in this era, there is a need felt of applying the concepts of operations management that were before applied to the manufacturing industries to the service industry. How far can this is accomplished is quite uncertain.

However, one thing is for sure; various operations management functions can be can be applied to the services sector. Like services provided by a bank, which to some is similar in function to the company making the pizzas as both are services. However, the thing that is different is the role of customers.
