Introduction

Organizational Structure refers to a system which consists of various activities that lead to the achievement of the aims and objectives of the organization. These important activities include allocation of task, coordination, management and supervision that lead to the achievement of organizational aims and objectives. There are two basic advantages for an organizational of having a well developed organizational structure. Firstly, the organizational structure provides a foundation on which operating routines and procedures rely. Secondly, this structure provides clear definitions as to which individual would participate in which decision. An organizational with a well developed and clear organizational structure has very good chances of succeeding in its business (Roberts, 2004). The organizational selected by me for discussing its organizational structure and design is Facebook. A discussion on the organizational structure o0f this organizational is presented in this paper.

Organizational Structure of Facebook

As we know, Facebook is the leading social interaction website in the world. There is a contribution of a well structured team behind the success of Facebook. It is obvious that a well defined and well designed organizational structure is very important for an organization to achieve its objectives and be successful in its course of business activities. A well designed organizational structure is the secret behind the success of Facebook. The organizational structure of Facebook demonstrates 37 executives in their respective departments who fulfill the leadership demands and make effective decisions that lead the organization on the path of success.

The organizational structure of Facebook demonstrates a hierarchical structure and is mentioned as follows. The structure of Facebook begins with the Chairman and CEO of the organization followed by the Board of Directors. The structure further continues with the CFO, CIO and COO of the organization. After this senior management, the organizational structure of this organizational consists of various departments who are responsible for carrying out the tactical and operational activities of the organization. The organizational structure is further divided into the security, corporate development, product, legal, brand design, engineering, communications and marketing, partnerships and marketing. In addition to this, The organizational structure of Facebook is further divided to the human resources department, platform, mobile, mid market sales, regional director, growth, engagement and mobile, advertising and global operations, global marketing solutions, security services, public policy, product advertising, software development, engineering, infrastructure engineering, consumer marketing and infrastructure engineering (Baloum, 2007).

This is the basic organizational structure of Facebook which consist of the above mentioned departments in the organization. Each department involves an immediate manager to which all the business activities have to be reported and finally the managers have to report to the senior management.

Comparison of Organizational Structures

The organizational structure of two organizations that I have selected for comparison with the organizational structure of Facebook is Twitter and Linkedin.
