Personal Hygiene at the Workplace: How to Communicate To Someone That Has a Problem

Introduction

One of the main issues that may infrequently occur in the place of work is the problem of an employee's or a worker's personal hygiene. This problem perhaps one of unpleasant body odor, smelling or dirty clothing, bad breath or dirty hair. Dealing with a worker who possesses a problem of personal hygiene is may be one of the most insensitive and difficult situations, which a manager is to be expected to come across. Providing suggestions or hints to the worker or employee may not be considered as an effective solution to the problem as he informs an individual about the issue (Bove´e et.al, 2004). Even though no employee or worker desires to be informed that they do not have a good hygiene, it is significant that employers or companies tackle the state of affairs punctually and firmly.

As soon as any other employee or customer begins to notice this problem, it may initiate a negative impact that is not good for the workplace. Until and unless the problem moves up with the worker or employee, it is implausible to get away of its own settlement. Colleagues or other employees may begin to demonstrate hostility in the directions of the issue employee and possibly will before long turn out to be disillusioned with organization's management if they pay no attention to the issues or are not willing to handle the situation effectively and swiftly. One of the best the best approach forward is for worker or employee to move toward the condition by holding a confidential meeting with that particular worker or employee (Carlson, 2008). A responsive move toward will be necessary and the company or employer have to be ready to talk frankly and openly on the subject of that issue. In that meeting, the company or employer has to be prepared for the reaction of the employee as a response to the news, at the same time as they might feel angry, embarrassed or upset.

In this paper, I will discuss the ways to communicate persons having the problem of personal hygiene and its implementation and effects as well.
