“Personal Statement”

My life took a new turn when I got to know about the Secondary School Exchange Program launched by the U.S. Department of State. I came to America and lived here with a volunteer American family and attended a private school for three years. Leaving my country and family seemed difficult at first, but the American family that volunteered to keep me with them is so loving and supportive that I did not miss my country all that much. I love America for its intellectual vitality, religious freedom, enriched culture and social set up. I experienced things here that I would never have experienced back in China.

I loved America and my volunteer American family so much that I quickly adjusted in the new environment. This is one of my personality traits. I adapt very quickly. I believe this life is too short to focus on the negativities around us. If there is one thing that America has thought me, it is that if we truly want to live, we should enjoy each and every moment of life to the fullest. I am inspired by my mom. She is a role model to me. What I truly like about her is the fact that she is good at everything she does. She is my role model Chinese Tiger Mom.

In the future, I plan to continue my studies in America as student diversity in American institutes is unmatched. I plan to graduate in either Engineering or Economics and intend to apply to the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science Northwestern University, Chicago.

Unique qualities of Northwestern

As a girl interested in education in a practical way, Northwestern University intrigues me by offerings an interesting range of more than 150 certificates, minors, majors, and concentrations. The university provides an opportunity to study with some brilliant scholars, artists, and scientist in a number of undergraduate schools, allowing the option to select from a number of subjects and topics. The University offers students to pick from approximately four thousand undergraduate courses, allowing them to do a double major, or go for diverse education with minors in other subjects like while still graduating in four years.

Academic Advising

The university offers unmatched counseling and guidance for undergrad students. Not only does the university provide student's assistance in helping them transfer from the university's undergraduate schools, going for double majors, or with the resolution of issues regarding academics, the university also provides advice on pre-medical and pre-health.

Undergraduate Research

One of the best aspects of the University for research and knowledge hungry students is the ample opportunities provided by the university to students to take on research and undergraduate students.

Libraries

The University's Library is among the 10th largest in the United States among private universities having more than 4.6 million volumes.
