Introduction

The Matrix, Plato's allegory of cave and Descartes' philosophy, all three of them move around the philosophy of the real world and the world of ignorance (Mullins, 2012). There are number of philosophers who wrestled with the issue of perceiving and knowing the reality. All the three, Matrix, Plato, and Descartes, depicts that body and soul are the two different parts of mind, which also indicates that mind and soul are both separate from the body (www.bookrags.com). Both the mind and the soul may have two different aspects or demands that differentiate between the truth and reality.

Comparison and contrast between The Matrix with the readings from Plato and Descartes

After reading the synopsis of The Matrix, and reading from the famous cave allegory of Plato, and the philosophy of Rene Descartes, one can see many similarities as well as differences between all three of them. When analyzing the Matrix and Cave Allegory of Plato, it can be seen that both stories are different yet their ideas are similar. Both stories are telling about the characters that are being in the world of what they are experiencing is an illusion or some kind of dream. The both also depict through their characters the idea that human beings are deceived by what they see or the sight of the world they live in according to their perception. There are other key points as well that can be analyzed and relate to each other almost exactly in a same manner. It is evident that the Matrix is based on the Greek philosophy, the idea of freeing one's soul or mind as even presented in the Allegory of Cave is a well known idea attached to Greek philosophy.
