Question 1: There is a need to look up the definition of assonance and alliteration and define those two words in your own words. Does this poem exhibit any use of either?

Answer 1: The word assonance refers to the similarity that is there in the sound between two syllables which have a close connection with each other and are formed either by the usage of the same consonants and the usage of different vowels e.g. (hit and heart) or by the same vowels but consonants are different e.g. (back and hat). Alliteration refers to the occurrence of the usage of more than two words, when they are placed in a particular sequence that consists of similar sounding first syllables. The rhyme is formed either by the usage of the first letter or when the initial letters of the word are combined with each other (Koch, 1970, 142).

Therefore, these are the examples of the usages of two words known as assonance and alliteration. As far the poem is concerned, the usage of the second word known as alliteration did take place because of the way they occurred during the poem. The rhyme was certainly formed in a particular sequence that was quite similar to the first syllables of the poem. The first word known as assonance also took place in the poem because the sound between two syllables certainly had a close connection with each other. It can be seen in the first two lines of the poem. It is quite clear that these two words have a strong connection with the poem and they will always have a role in the sentence formation of the poem (MacNeil, 2000, 367).
