Describe the impact of Sir Robert Peel on American policing.

The introduction of the modern system of policing can be credited to the Peelian Principles that were presented by Sir Robert Peels. The desire behind the introduction of this ethical police force was the reduction of criminal activities, with the enforcement of the law and order situation in London. Moreover, this ethical system of police force turned out to a success, as criminal activities in London reduced drastically, which eventually led to the implementation of this ethical system of police force in different cities in the United Kingdom. However, before the introduction of this ethical system of police force, the enforcement of the law and order situation in United Kingdom and the United States of America was in the hands of sheriffs, constables, general public and the watchmen (Hurd, 2007). The Peelian Principle, presented by Sir Robert Peel included nine principles. The analysis of the intentions with which these principles were presented is vital, in order to be able to evaluate and identify the relationship between the police force in the modern times with the principles presented by Sir Robert Peel. Prevention of uncontrollable criminal activities and disorder had been described as the motive of the first principle. Moreover, the acceptance and approval of public is the focus of the second principle in regard to effective police forces. The third principle is focused on the cooperation between the general public and the police forces in relation to the laws that are in place, in order to be able to win the respect of each other. Moreover, the fourth principle suggests lesser use of the forces, as a greater use leads towards lower levels of cooperation among the police forces and the general public. The fifth point suggests that the police force needs to treat everyone equally, without any biases, in order to be able to win the favor of the public. Moreover, the sixth principle suggests the use of police forces only in situations where all other means have been used to no effect for getting to a solution in relation to a particular problem. Furthermore, the seventh principle suggests that it is the sole responsibility of the police force to work for the interest and welfare of the general public.
