Strategies

Effective storytelling

Before activity preparations

Play the audio of the story and let the students listen attentively

Ask the students to point out the main characters

Explain how the names are replaced by subject pronouns, the reason behind using them.

Structure:

This activity is for pre intermediate students.

This exercise is in order to check whether students understand the idea of subject pronouns and how they change according to singular and plural

Activity can be performed individually or in groups

Make sure to play an audio first to get them attentive about the topic

Have the students perform the exercises on subject pronouns

The exercise focuses third person subject pronouns

Another exercise is to fill in the blanks with the characters name instead of pronouns, the importance of this exercise is to understand characters and how they are replaced by subject pronoun

Make the students re write the sentences and conduct a class discussion regarding the answers

Rationale

According to Fotos and Nissaji they consider teaching pronouns to a foreign language speaker is tricky since there is no such concept within many languages for instance Spanish.
