Post Clinical Reflection on the Clinical Experience

Phenomenon: Describe the experience

Briefly describe the clinical experience, the focus of the clinical placement and a brief overview of the experience.

The five week clinical placement was in Paediatrics ward at Mount Druitt Hospital. During this placement, I cared for the patients from infancy to young adulthood with different problems. I also experienced working in the Paediatrics Clinic where Skin allergy Testing was done as well as follow up visits to clients in the community. Working in the Children's Ward was a new experience to me. It was very different from treating adult health because their bodies work differently. In the community setting, I was able to provide care for a 6 year old girl who has a Chronic Obstructive Disease. At the end of the placement, I came to realize that patient- centred care and engaging health team members is significant in every outcome as addressing various factors and concerns can help recover their physical condition by improving health outcomes.

Causal is an aspect of John's Model for Structured Reflection which includes factors that had influence the whole clinical experience (Crispy & Taylor, 2009).

Factors that had a great impact to my overall experience were good mentorship and willingness and enthusiasm of clients in helping me in my learning. During my placement, I was able to build up my skills in dealing with my patient and their family and other health care team through mentorship. I was encouraged to attend lectures and in service conducted in the Hospital thus, increase my knowledge. In addition, certain circumstances and events had influenced my experience greatly such as ...
