Troy Davis Case

“I am a convinced Republican with 20 years of experience, but if the Democrats once again raise the question of capital punishment, I do not hesitate to retaliate them”, no such message appeared on the “Twitter” after the controversial execution of Troy Davis. The sad end of the story of this crime again summoned to the American public doubts about the necessity of the death penalty. It all began August 19, 1989, when the parking lot coffee shop in the city of Savannah struck up a fight. Moonlighting as a security guard officer, Mark MacPhail decided to intervene and protect battered homeless. In response, one of the attackers was shot twice in the custody order (Jan, 1991, pp. 03-08). According to some witnesses, murderer even has a smile on his face. MacPhail was killed on the spot. He is survived by a wife and two young children.

On suspicion of committing a crime 20-year-old Troy Anthony Davis was arrested. Two years later it took over the court. Seven witnesses under oath said they have seen how he shot the policeman. Ballistic examination established that the bullets were fired from a pistol, earlier already used by Davis in another shootout. After all the hearings, the young man was sentenced to death.

Everything seemed to be very clear. But the prisoner continued to struggle and drew his defense of new lawyers. They insisted that the lack of work of their predecessors and the racial composition of the court (seven of the 12 jurors were black, as does Davis) was sentenced deprived of the right to a fair trial. Then a strange thing happened: seven of nine witnesses have changed or completely refuted their testimony, citing the pressure of the police during the investigation.
