Abstract

The following pages will discuss on why a project fails and progress poorly. To what factors are a project manager responsible for and which factors are uncontrollable by the project manager. The effects of management of change on a project construction and completion will also be discussed. The effects of sociological and political circumstances and changes on a project will also be discussed in the following white paper. Furthermore, why the Montreal Olympic Stadium project faced many problems and how it's restructuring effected its completion will also be discussed in the following white paper.

Introduction

Managing a project might sound simple and easy, but it is one of the most complicated and hectic task that a manager faces. No matter what the size of the project is, there are always some forces at work that relates to a project which are uncontrollable by the project manager, or any other person that is involved in the project itself. These forces include delays and extra costs involved due to natural disasters, political fluctuations, and governmental problems like increase in taxes and foreign currencies.

However, there are still many forces and problems that can be controlled by a project manager like labour union problems, problems arising due to material usages and effectiveness, and deadline predictions. If these problems are not properly dealt with, no matter how simple or complicated the project is, it is meant to be doomed. Hence, project management is not an easy task and it bestows many responsibilities which need to be properly met for the success of the project at hand.

With keeping the above line in discussion, the following pages will discuss why projects fail due to improper project management, and how the effects of social, political, cultural and organizational elements (Labour Force, Material % budgeting) that relates to a project directly and directly effects the success of a project. Furthermore, the following pages will also discuss on how these factors affected the construction of the project that relates to the Montreal Olympic Stadium, and how the events that took place relating to the disturbance in labour, material and budgeting factors affected the overall construction and operation of the Montreal Olympic Stadium.
