Promoting Terrorism Prevention

Introduction

Terrorism is the most important issue facing our world today. To strengthen and expand current efforts of our government to combat terrorism, we urgently need more fundamental approach, which eliminates the very basis of terrorism and prevent terrorist acts before they begin(Mariani 2003 ). In the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11 and the military strikes on Afghanistan, the danger of machine endless cycle of violence and retribution. To prevent future terrorist acts, what should be done?

Discussion

 Bringing perpetrators to justice through legal procedures and respecting the rights and safety of civilians is the most important aspect. The long history of attempts to terrorism "struggle" shows that the military quid pro quo of terrorism usually fails, causing enormous human suffering, and unpredictable long-term consequences(Durmaz 2007). The bombing of the entire amount "collateral damage" of Afghanistan and the inevitable decision not an insoluble problem, but in response to one kind of terror on the other.

Unequivocal condemnation should be there for all acts of terrorism. If there is a condemnation of all acts, methods and practices of terrorism, the so-called "coalition" against terrorism will be opportunistic, tactical one and not the long-term, broad support, strategic one. Coalition members should develop objective definition of terrorism and to refrain from double standards. As noted in the September 2001 international conference on terrorism held in Geneva, states have historically played a "naming games against terrorism, putting countries on and off the list of diplomatic convenience" and not on any commonly-held, strict criteria.

Also work should be done for preventing strategic escalation of conflict and a new Cold War.
