Introduction

Propaganda is one of the best techniques to gain the support of masses towards any ideology. This notion, however, is being widely used in the wars to provoke the emotions of the people to gain the sympathy towards any cause. The term used to describe the form of communication in which source intends to influence the attitudes and behavior of community towards any idea. During the World War II (WWII), all the allies and axis use the propaganda heavily in order to maintain the uninterrupted support from the public. However, United States was among the nation which uses propaganda extensively, for obtaining not only support from the public but raising money for war as well (Jowett, Jowett and O'Donnell, 2006). Though, different propaganda techniques, were used but, this study would focus on propagating the ideas through posters, because at that time, posters were the most influential medium to communicate and influence the behavior of the people. The word constraints and the nature of the assignment bar to discuss every poster; thus, the study had selected the following poster to describe what emotions have been provoked by this poster.

Poster Selected for the Study

"Keep the horror from your home," the American poster produced during World War II, uses a variety of visual and textual elements to encourage Americans to buy war bonds, exposing as the Japanese aggressors (Marshall and Anthony, 1979). Emphasis is on the Japanese in the poster (of a man whose facial features are exaggerated) to instill fear in the eyes of the viewer. In contrast, frightened and vulnerable expression of the American woman who is helpless at the mercy of the Japanese soldier, fuel hatred of the Japanese audiences.
