Introduction:

Renaissance was a literary movement, which affected the perception and views of people especially for the religions. In the beginning, it was only a literary movement, which deals with logic and reasoning for the analysis in every field of study. Later, this change began to affect the religious beliefs. Scholars and philosophers judged religious beliefs on the basis of logic and reasoning. Effect of Reformation also affected Renaissance movement and then age of Enlightenment further affected religious and ecclesiastic beliefs. All these effects were reflected through literature of that time. Literature serves as the best mean, to trace all these changes embedded in the text. These changes in the ecclesiastic beliefs to the age of reasoning can be traced with the close examination of the tone of literature.

This shift in the tone of literary works, from traditional ecclesiastic beliefs to an age of inquiry and reason, not only provides evidences with the help of events, but also reflects through the changes in its tone. The tone is defined as, 'the writer's attitude toward the material and/or readers. Tone may be playful, formal, intimate, angry, serious, ironic, outraged, baffled, tender, serene, depressed, etc' .This tone can assist in studying the changes in the religion and culture during Renaissance and also the effect of these changes can be observed in the tone of literature.

Research Hypothesis

There were various changes in the literature, after the period of Renaissance. One of the major impacts was that Renaissance affected religion and this was reflected in the literature. This change or shift in tone from traditional ecclesiastic beliefs, to an age of inquiry and reason can easily be observed by close analysis of the renaissance literature.

Research Aims and Objectives:

This research aims to analyse shift in literary tone from the ecclesiastic beliefs to the age of reason and logic. Another objective of this research is to identify change in the religious beliefs and effect of religious Renaissance on the literature. This research aims to look for the evidences in literature, to proof change in literary tone due to the effect of religious Renaissance. This research will also provide understanding of different changes in the religious beliefs. Research Questions:

The present study will aim to answer the following research questions.

Is there an evident shift in the tone of writing from traditional ecclesiastic belief to an age of inquiry and reason?

Did the Religious Renaissance have an impact on the literary works produced during the renaissance period?
