Protecting Our Borders: Analysis of United States Custom and Border Patrol

Introduction

In the current era, terrorism is the most re-occurring event on this planet. Every other day, we get to hear about hijacks, bomb blasts, assassinations, killings and other brutal terrorist activities. Many of such terrorist activities are carried out on the basis of Islamic jihad while others are carried out by new emerging terrorists in different areas of the world. There are a lot of terrorist agencies operating throughout the world who are fully resourced and work out according to their plans with all the ease. It is said that almost one third of all terrorist activities are carried out against the Americans, and the rest of the attacks are occurred in the Soviet Union and other areas.

Terrorist are normal people as far as the physical look is concerned, but if they are judged on the basis of activity and other characteristics, they are wild beasts with no respect for any caste, color, religion, nationality etc. they are only focused on their own targets i.e. killings, bombings, hijackings etc. They are normal citizens, but they do not have any sort of feeling of citizenship for any place in the world. At present, terrorism is a one-sided conflict that the United States is losing. American fighters and people are being killed in the war. Unfortunately, the United State is not curing terrorism like war. The restricted conflict forces chosen for the President by the Congress are incapable in dealing with the enemy (Cohen, p. 77). If we are to win the conflict contrary to terrorism, we should recognize that it is war. Until we glimpse, it as infantry aggression, we will be failed in finishing terrorism in this decade. The criminal justice system has been the source of exceedingly precious understanding on al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.

Terrorism and Border Control

All the illegal imports such as drugs, weapons etc are prohibited by the Operation alliance, which is an agency working for the south western US border. Participating federal agencies support Operation Alliance through their normal operating budgets, which do not specifically identify personnel, equipment, or expenditures associated with Operation Alliance. Similarly, drug seizures cannot be separately attributed to the operation.

The US Congress provides a lot of proofs to the government in order to put in efforts to secure the country from the extent of the threat from drug smuggling and illegal immigration; and ways to enhance security between the ports of entry. The prevention strategy along various areas of this border is reported (Adler, p. 34).

The trade of narcotics and other addictive drugs is a complete illegal activity throughout the world, but at the same time, it is one the highest revenue generating businesses. According to the United Nations International Drug Control Program (UNDCP), this turnover varies between $300 and $500 billion yearly, equivalent to 8 percent of the international trade volume.
