The television series of ABC, Grey's Anatomy, has the great character of Meredith Grey. She was a girl of having compound personality with different traits and which eventually falls in psychological approaches. It is usually noticed that people having doctor profession holds some different kinds of theories and concepts which are slight inacceptable for the common man. Same is described in the features of the character, Meredith. In order to understand her personality, we have used two approaches, firstly, trait skill approach and secondly, Psychoanalytic approach. These two distinctive approaches in psychology briefly glance over the character sketch of Meredith. Her emotions and profession throughout the series shows different complex ingredients in her nature. This shows Meredith's emotional instability and unconsciousness in the different episodes. Meredith grey is the focal point and protagonist of the series. It is said that Meredith is unaware in many events of the series.

Introduction

Meredith Grey is a story bound character from the television series of Grey's Anatomy, which is the best hit show of ABC in the USA. The series started in March 2005 and recently on its seventh season. The life of Meredith began as an internee of medical at Seattle Grace Hospital which gone through the entire seven seasons of the series. The serial begins with Meredith; she goes towards her mother's house and belongings. Her mother, Ellis Grey, was a profound surgeon in her time and has an early-onset Alzheimer's disease. The introduction of Meredith's mother came on screen in the first episode “my mother was one of the greats, me on the other hand- I'm kind of screwed,” right before entering on her first day of work (Rhimes, 2005-2011).

Discussion

Meredith is a graduate student of Dartmouth College however her mother disease inspired her daughter for joining the medical school. She was abandoned in childhood by her father, Thatcher Grey, at that time she was just five years old. ("Meredith Grey," 2011). It was only Meredith who had the close knowledge about Alzheimer. Before the night of her internship, Meredith had a one night stand, without knowing the person (Derek Shepherd). He is the neurological surgeon at Seattle Grace hospital.

In the trait skill approach, personality of an individual gradually shifts over the years though the main moral force remains the same. There are few types of personalities and with whom every person fit on his best type. Introversion and Extroversion were introduced by Carl Jung with two types of attitudes and four functions which includes thinking, intuiting, feeling and sensing (Friedman, 2009, p. 259).

In the 1960s, the Big Five model was introduced by trusting that most of the trait approaches to personality can be captured by five dimensions; conscientiousness, agreeableness, extroversion, neuroticism and openness (Friedman, 2009).
