Psychology as a Science

Psychology as a Science

Introduction

The study is concerned about the psychology as a science which further focuses on the ethical issues related to the psychology and also on the psychosocial aspect of psychology. The psychology is the science of the soul. Furthermore, it is also considered as the study which identifies the behavior and the attitude of an individual. It identifies and works on the men's psyche which explores the feelings, ideas, thoughts, aspirations and desires of an individual. The psyche is the interests and abilities of man which shows his temperament and character that includes what are the laws of memory, imagination, and thinking? How to develop skills and formed a person's character? The status of applied psychology in other academic disciplines was considered suspect, largely because the psychologists of the day paid little attention to scientific research. In an attempt to secure status and legitimize itself as a profession in universities, psychology programs began adopting stronger scientific focus. The shift was so profound that professional and applied areas were eventually relegated to an inferior status in favor of rigorous science and research.

Discussion

Psychology as a Science

Psychological science is getting more in this era, although it is a traditional area of science and there was a time when psychology was considered to be a study whose results related to ethics and the social activities considered as useless. The first theory put forward to explain the behavior, attracted to this factor external to the individual, whether it's “shadow” that inhabits the body and leave it after death, or gods, believed to be responsible for all actions of human beings. (Norcross, 2002) I must say that the vast majority of the populations in our time believe in the supernatural destiny and the like. It is fair to note that this is not ignorant of the population and the time she believes, is the fact there is some reason unknown to science.

Growth Areas for Psychological Science

With the advances in genetics, neuroscience, and computer technology and the current emphasis on translational science, the psychological sciences have many areas for potential growth that are outside of our usual spheres of research. Psychological science is likely to intersect with other disciplines such as biology, economics, genetics, mathematics, computer science, sociology, anthropology, and political science. There are some overarching changes in funding and policies that will impact the conduct of psychological science in the future. (Freud, 1911)

Ethical issues in Psychology

With the mapping of the human genome, there are incredible possibilities for understanding the behavioral components and ethical implications of genetics. The behavioral aspects of genetics are explored and utilized to create new health treatments and applications. Psychologists can contribute to important basic research on the interactions between behavior and genetics, the applications of these discoveries through genetic counseling, and ethical considerations in their study and application.

The advent of “personalized medicine,” in which an individual's genome is used to determine specific treatments, needs to include behavioral and psychological ...
