Research Question

“How architects response to unbalanced alters of our psychological needs in decades?”

Introduction

One of the first and main directions of environmental psychology - was born in America in 1950. The architects are more oriented in the sphere of art; it is difficult to consider all the necessary features without corresponding psychological education. Also, architects, designers and planners are often different from the typical user for education, mobility, and their psychophysical characteristics. Linked to this is the need to bring to the design of ecopsychology environment. Originally, the architects were invited to the last to take into account the "human factor" (i.e., psychological, physiological, ergonomic and psychosocial parameters of the main user groups of the space) in the project, architectural construction (Wright,1939,102-132).

Today, architects have developed a good habit to seek help from psychologists in the design of public service buildings of various specifications: courthouses, hospitals, prisons, cafeterias, universities, etc., not to mention the parks, squares and other "public areas" urban infrastructure. Experience and research methods of ecopsychology help them avoid many of the design errors and to implement more fine "tuning" of the building in accordance with its functionality and the needs of end users.

Unlike fashion, building cannot be changed by merely adding or taking out a piece of fabric. It is interesting to know how architects try to distinguish their work from fashion, and how their works will not render in decades. I have then narrowed down the focus to “How architects response to unbalanced alters of our psychological needs” Different mind and need of human in different time of era. In the task I am going to go deeper in analysis different precedents of architecture, to understand the architects' design, and to understand how they solve the problem of “responding to our psychological needs”. What also interests me is how new technology i.e. transparent solar cells, new flat-screen television communicate and affect the way we live, thus it may affect the way architects' think and design. For this matter, focus on Le Corbusier's admiration for industry and technology expressed in his design may help to understand (Wohlwill,1970,303-312). Though in this case, Le Corbusier's exemplars are more or less described as Modernism, problem is, does Modernism answer and solve the issue of “responding to our need” or it is just a beauty of generation in the field of architecture? Nevertheless, different works of architecture have responded to our psychological needs.

As we are living in the era that surrounded by a lot of new trend and technology, I wonder how this fact affects the way we live, especially in the field of architecture. This motivates me to investigate the changes of history and evolution of architecture, and how they affect us, or maybe how we change the way of trend the field of designing the world. Based on research from scientists about physical and behavioural effects between people and their surroundings and the reason why it is important to design ...
