Role of TQM in Organizational Development

In order to sustain Competitive Advantage, company needs the application of innovative strategies. The complicated nature of global businesses has forced many Organizations to innovate and think out of the box. Innovative Strategies lead to better performance and higher customer satisfaction. In order to attract the technology driven customer we should also look at other factors apart from quality.

The strategies developed should be associated with the Organizational variables. Strategies are the tools which help us achieve our Organizational goals. Lot of Planning and research is involved in the development of Strategies.

Considering today's Competitive Environment, many Organizations have pursued Total quality management (TQM) as a Strategy. It is an essential strategy for survival and growth of Organizations in today's demanding environment. The strategic Importance of Total Quality Management is highly significant.

An essential component of Total Quality Management is the concept of Continuous Improvement. Continuous Improvement helps the Organizations not only in satisfying Customers but making them into loyal customers. Implementation of TQM ensures that the Organization's services are line with the customer's needs and expectations (Al-Swidi, 2011).

The seven basic tools on Quality are the solution for most of the problems faced by Organizations. These tools should be taught to all employees.

Cause and Effect Diagrams

Cause and Effect diagrams help the Organization in identifying the symptoms of a problem. They also are used as a means for identifying the root cause. This stage helps us in making our directions clear. It also helps to reveal the complicated relationships surrounding those problems.

Control (Run) Charts

It's important to measure the degree of change in a process. Control Charts are statistical tools which help us to measure the degree of change in a process. Not only this, it also tells us how a process has evolved over time.

Pareto Charts

It refers to the concept that 80% of the problem is attributable to 20% of its causes. It makes it easier for us to decide which area needs the most improvement. It highlights the problematic areas.
