RACISM

Race and Community

Abstract

The research paper addresses the question on how human interactions in my community have been the subject of racism. The main focus and analysis is on the African American racism. The African Americans have been the subject of many discussions in that the American community has discriminated against them. The discrimination ranges from an overall different attitude of the general public towards the blacks to the media bias and political discriminations. However, the scenario has become much better in that the African Americans are now less discriminated than they were in the past.

Race and Community

Introduction

Racism has always been a subject of discussion all around the globe. United States of America is a diverse country and there are many races that live here. The race that I will be analyzing in this paper is African Americans living in the USA (Bryant, 2009). Race may be defined on the basis of natural and biological origins. Some describe it on the basis of social and cultural values that a group of people adhere to. The African American race in my community descends from the ancient African slaves that lived in America. African Americans make the largest racial minority in the United States. The current president of United States of America also belongs to this racial minority group. The many studies on African Americans and the racism against them present the African Americans as a commodity and an object for people to study.

Racism in Leadership

If we analyze the current scenario, the acting president of USA, Barack Obama is a black himself. This is a testament of the fact that America has been blamed for discriminating against the blacks but if we truly look at history, we will see that many of the African Americans have stood the test of time and have stood against all odds. Moreover, the new leader being an African American himself will never discriminate amongst the African American community. Additionally, African Americans have the largest representation in the political process than any other community. Though, the whites usually have more opportunities but I truly believe that no employer will ever discriminate against a highly competitive black only on the basis of racial discrimination.

Attitude of Community Members towards Racism

The treatment of blacks by the members of my community is different. As perfect as people may deem the world to be, with respect to the developments made, progressed achieved and civilizations transformed; the world and its inhabitants still lag behind in their moral development. Many individuals, who may live in castles type homes, are still occupied with their trivial mental approach in relation to the caste, creed, ethnicity, colour and race of other individuals. In this context, the blacks have a different personality associated with them. For instance, the black males are normally very strong physically. Similarly, the whites are considered more beautiful by some. A majority of the whites think of African Americans as blacks involved in all sorts of crime such as drug dealing, ...
