Reflective Assignment

Introduction

The topic under study is a reflective piece of work based on key aspects of my learning journey in relation to education theory. The key aspects include my motivation for learning, influence of teachers and other on my learning pathway, my preferred learning styles and the principles of adult learning illustrated through my personal reflection. Further, the paper explores my values and beliefs around teaching and learning. Teaching and learning are two broader areas of this study.

Learning is defined as knowledge which is either newly acquired or modified. Learning journey relates to a human learning experience during his/ her educational career or personal development through training or any other means (Bruner, 1996, p.73). Learning had an impact on my moral development. I became more mature as I moved through education in different phases of life. Learning embedded sensibilities, attitudes and skills in me that made me a morally decent human being. I perceive this development as of value because through these, I learned to participate in the society and achieved a captivating character. Learning also had an impact on my sense of self and consciousness. I learned to overcome challenges and myself in certain situations occurring in the society. Moreover, I learned the abilities to execute the system of control of my mind.

The teacher is a person who tries to establish the means for obtaining a high level of attention from students. He/ she is concerned, by verbal intervention, to link with previously learned knowledge. When modeling, the information is presented in small units, in a graduated sequence of simple to complex. Teaching sets out the objectives of the lesson clearly so that students know what is expected of them (Carter & Jackson, 2009, p.144).

Discussion

Since the reflection relates to key aspects of my learning in relation to education theory, before beginning, it is important to highlight education theory. Many Learning Theories have been developed over an extended period, though a majority of those now in use have arisen in the last century or so.

Education Theory

Learning takes place every day in our live. According to psychology, learning takes place when cognition, emotion and environment influence a person's brain to think. This concept has given rise to different learning theories and learning methods. Keeping in mind the nature of learning, it can occur over a long distance, across borders, internationally.

Learning and education, that address the knowledge acquisition processes have had a great development during the last century mainly due to advances in psychology and instructional theories that have attempted to systematize the mechanisms associated with mental processes that make learning possible. From the perspective of education as well as psychology, learning is understood as something that results in psychological, emotional and environmental influences and experiences (Denby, Butroyd, Swift, Price & Glazzard, 2008, p.171). These influences and experiences help in increasing knowledge, skills and values. Based on this theory of education, I had a positive learning journey, which developed my cognitive, emotional and environmental influences and ...
