But her mother (Angela Bassett) is too diverted to observe her female child is going to the City Spelling Bee and then the Regional. Soon, Akeelah has the whole community rooting for her and assisting her, impelling her to win the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.

Yes, the movie is predictable and, at times, a little sappy. But the presentation of Keke Palmer as Akeelah rapidly makes you overlook about the couple of difficulties the movie has. Akeelah is like numerous middle school students; aghast to display how smart she is because she will be teased by other scholars, she purposely dumbs herself down in public situations.
