Thesis Statement

It is said that church has became irrelevant to the modern world due to the complex factors it comprises of but there are some phenomenon of today's world where church still seems relevant.

Introduction

It was said that religions will lost their essence in modern society but the approach became invalid as there are a lot of societies that are religious and modern at the same time. This awareness eradicates the perception that church has become completely irrelevant in today's world. Where modern society is becoming more and more technology oriented day by day, the biggest problem it faces is more complexity and perplexed it is becoming. With busy routines and hectic schedule people seek simple solutions of their problems and often believe in conspiracy theories no matter who provides it whether religion or science. There are many process of modern society that is supported by church and there are some phenomenons where the role of church seems irrelevant.

The debate about influence of church on modern society is going on for years. Few arguments say that church has lost its control over the society and continuously changing process of the world has made it irrelevant to today's world. On the other hand many studies say that the stand of churches keeps changing time to time but it continues to play an important role in the process of modernization. In order to verify thesis statement several arguments are presented in this paper.

Discussion

Capitalism is one of the main components of modern society which is considered to be an economic system that includes private ownership of goods, services and production. Though there are many assumptions about the origin of capitalism but it is generally said that capitalism flourished along with the age of enlightenment brought by church or Christianity (Reken, 1999, Pp. 198). Catholic Church of middle ages was the focus point of its beginning where the preconditions of capitalism were initiated.

Just like decades before when church gave strength to the concept of capitalism, it cannot remain isolated from the process of capitalism that has been prevailed in the modern society neither church's practices are irrelevant in today's world. Though church has always preached that money is the root of every evil but it is also compromises with the capitalist civilization and works upon its doctrines (Novak, 1999, Pp. 2). This engagement of church with capitalism is in the economic interest of church itself, for its debt structure and especially it depends upon the gifts or donations it received from privileged of society. Church has to develop its relation with other institutions, other church and society and this cannot be possible without creating an economic system. So it is not a surprising fact if churches are implied in the structure of capitalism.
