Religion versus Science

Abstract

The science and the religion are not mutually contradictory. On the other hand, the science contacts the religion and always acts in accordance with the religious beliefs. In addition, the science also gets confirmed by the religion and vice versa. Both science and religion are one on the reality of the universe and exhibit the unified cosmological beliefs. However, one must not try to corroborate the scientific findings with religious traditions. Also, one must not try to apply the religious injunctions onto the scientific theory. Therefore, the two can also be seen as to be running parallel to each other. Galileo Galilei contradicted the words of the Bible. However, he never refuted or disproved the existence of the Sun or the Earth. Therefore, the science and the religion are not in dissonance with each other.

Introduction

The debate of the religion versus science and that of the theology versus the scientific is very old. For centuries, people have questioned the idea of religion as in direct conflict with the science. It was evident when Galileo Galilei believed in the scientific fact more than the religious underpinnings. The church also looked at the conflict of science and religion with stringency. Moreover, the evolutionist theory proposed by Darwin was also in stark contrast with the theology and the Christian beliefs. Therefore, there was the need to reconcile the two and which resulted in the debate of science versus theology and to know as to which was correct or superior.

However, the conflict between science and theology is not certain. It has been found that science and theology have an intricate relationship. While on certain occasions and in certain points the science contradicts and despises the religion, while on the other hand, in certain concepts and ideologies, the science is also in complete agreement with the religion which points to its supporting nature. In the latter case, the sciences are seen to be buttressing the theological averments and not contradicting it to any small degree. Therefore, science is in direct harmony with the religion. Also, the religion is in direct prosperity with the science. This is because both science and religion relate to the same underlying beliefs and traditions which cannot be negated by either the science or the religion. Hence, the work of the science or the religion is to mutually support and strengthen the other with their averments or their findings, rather than contradict each other.

Religion versus science

Contact between science and theology

A theory of science and theology suggests that both the science and the religion are in constant contact with each other. The scientific findings of today are not in any way in disagreement with the theological facts. It is only a matter of interpretation in the end. The scientific facts can be interpreted to be in line with the provisions of the ...
