Abstract

The research proposal is about the spousal abuse and in what circumstances people remain in and decide to stay in a spousal abuse relationship. The primary objective of this research study is to find the various types of abuses that are used and the factors that force one partner to stay engaged in an abusive relationship. The background and the literature review shows that in United States mostly women fall victim to spousal abuse. The studies also revealed that out of three one woman die each year because of spousal abuse. The literature review also revealed that spousal abuse can be in the form of physical, sexual and verbal. The literature review also revealed that people decide to stay in spousal relationship due to fear, lack of financial resources and children. The study will use both primary and secondary data. The primary data will be collected through interviews and the secondary data will be collected by means of journals, articles and books.

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION

Outline of the study

This study is based on the issue of spousal abuse and domestic violence. The study will also focus the various kinds of abuse and why spouses remain in abusive relationship with their partner. The study will also focus about the various circumstances that leads to the universal issue of spousal abuse. The study will begin with the first chapter which will provide the scope of the study and the aims and objectives behind the study. The second chapter is based on the literature review, which will analyze the previous studies and that have been conducted in the field. The third chapter will explain the research methodology of the study. The chapter five of the research proposal will analyze the data and will give the findings of the study. Finally the fifth chapter illustrates the implications and recommendations for the study.

Problem statement

Spousal abuse is a universal problem which is entrenched in many societies all around the world. Many studies have been conducted, which illustrate that spousal abuse have adversely affected the lives of many people (Bowker, 1983). Even though, many societal awareness and condemnation has increased over the years, spousal abuse is considered to be hidden and persistent issue in the society. Various studies have been conducted in United States which has stated that out of every three woman, one woman is killed by her husband or boyfriend every day. Studies have been conducted which have revealed that abuse can be physical, emotional, economic and verbal. Many spouses tend to stay in abusive relationship due to their fear, children and lack of financial resources. According to a recent study, every nine seconds in united sates, every woman is beaten by their husband and their boyfriend.
