Purpose of the study

The purpose of this study is to scrutinize the validity and efficiency of the Arkansas Comprehensive Literacy Model (ACLM). It will also examine the success that this model has had on literary achievements of the students belonging to the poor schools. This model will especially be studied with a focus on the high poverty schools. The study will also serve to evaluate if the perceptions of the teachers teaching in such high poverty schools has in any way been influenced or affected by this model. The instructional practices of the teachers will also be examined, including the effect that this model has had on the teaching practices. Several aspects of this model will be studied and intense examinations of the teachers who are teaching in the high poverty schools will be carried out before reaching any conclusions about the above stated goals of this research proposal.

Q1. How has the Arkansas Comprehensive Literacy Model influenced the achievement level of students in a high poverty school?

Review of Literature

The concept of schools as having developed into a community of learners has long been in prevalence. This concept has been highlighted by Lyons and Panel in 2001. Even those schools that are at the highest disadvantage can succeed in achieving higher results. This can be well accomplished if each individual involved in the learning process learns to take responsible for ensuring the literary success of all the students. The students are mostly eager to learn when they are coming from poor background. They have been taught by their parents that the only means of getting rid of their poor condition is by gaining education which would then open for hem eth prospectus of a better future. The teachers in such settings have the advantage of teaching students who are already motivated sand inspired. No doubt there are some challenges to when they teach students from poor backgrounds. These include lack of support for the students back at home towards education. Such students come to rely solely on the school for studying. This also imposes a lot of moral responsibility on the school teachers to teach their students with a greater determination. Their future is depended on their efforts which must be aimed at helping these students learn the best. Therefore, the need for the school teachers to effectively assume the responsibility of helping the students achieve greater literary achievements is more. The school can be made to be more cohesive if a collaborative and problem-solving atmosphere is available for the students. The teachers need to play their role to ensure that this sort of atmosphere is available for the students.
