ROLE OF MEDIA AND JOURNALISM IN DEMOCRATIC SOCIETIES

Introduction

Since its inception, the media has been a fundamental part of society and everything that happens in it. Thanks to it's possible to know something of what happened in the past, while recording the present and outlines the future. However, in recent decades where journalism and the media have assumed greater prominence ever thought, becoming a similar magnitude to that of politics and economics, so much so that the latter two, in some sometimes have to bend to what has been called "the fourth power."

In a society, the major function of media is to create awareness about the different situations that occur in favor of creating a better quality of life, and to warn society about the possible consequences that certain actions may result, at the same time must try to communicate all those actions that tend toward the common good of the people and the world. Ultimately, journalism is to provide, to the people and the world that contains information and cognitive tools sufficient for the men's relationships with their men and the world becomes more and more, in relations fraternity, brotherhood and generosity.

The journalism and the media play a fundamental role, since it is through them that we know the facts of what can be concluded that, since what they say, express or report is that in the end, we know it is clear that their accuracy, transparency and honesty that the world depends on that show is the real.
