Role of media in Presidential Election 2012.

Abstract

Media of today has a great impact on perception of people. Media is now one of the influential medium which is not only affecting perceptions of individuals, but it is also influencing the thinking and decision making capabilities of group of people. In current presidential election media has worked on top-down strategy which include influencing the people to vote for a certain presidential candidate. Another thing which was observed during these elections was that the reporting of media was also biased which not only distorted the perceptions but also influenced the mentality and decision making capabilities of the public. Before the advent to information technology there was a trend of influencing only through TV channels and newspapers. Now there are also other media types which influence the public at large. Internet is the biggest influencer among these mediums. The effect of media has now multiplied to quad times. This means that media can now influence more people than it can previously. Media uses different things to influence the people. This includes yellow journalism, using different language which includes the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques. Different scientific studies had been made, and many are in the process of completion. These studies focus on the human mind and how it gets influence. The research shows that the human mind has unbelievable powers, and it can process things which even a person cannot think about. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a type of study which focuses on different styles of language and persuasion techniques. Other such techniques include rhetoric methods like logos, ethos and pathos. A wide range of implication of influential debates, shows and interviews has been on air during the presidential election. This shows that media has the power to change the decisions of many people and help many people to achieve their goals (Vermont, 2012).

Introduction

In this research paper we will focus on how the right wing media and left wing media is using the words and the language to counter the strategies in presidential election 2012. It is observed that Romney and Obama have now come face to face in order to encounter their opponents. In order to get votes both the parties are disclosing their strategies and after that these parties are comparing their policies with their opponent's policies. The media has now start to focus more and more on the political debate so that the public can decide about their voting criteria. For the past few decades media has become an essential part of life of the people living in the world.
