Introduction

Addictions come in many different shapes and forms. Hard to define precisely, it has become popular to think of any behavior that has a compulsive factor as an "addiction." But for those who really have an addiction, or for those affected by addiction of a loved one or close, it is clear what addiction means a "real" terms.

An addiction is a dependence on a substance, activity or relationship which drives the addict away from everything else around him. She is represented by the desires that consume the thoughts and behaviors of people, and act on those activities designed to achieve the desired thing or to engage in the desired activity (addictive behaviors). And, unlike the simple habits and consumerist influences, addictions are "dependencies" with serious consequences in real life deteriorate, adversely affect and destroy relationships, health (physical and mental), and the ability to function effectively . Addiction is weakening.

Consequently, an addict is a person "dependent" of the thing that dominates their thoughts and desires and directs their behavior, and the claim that thing becomes the most important activity of his life. In advanced stages of addiction, nothing is as important as the addiction itself.

In any society, between 10% and 15% of the population are alcoholics or addicts. In the Americas the problem exists in epidemic proportion. These patients have a family. Then more than half of society lives with the problem. Today it is recognized addiction as a disease. Obviously alcoholism is an addiction to alcohol. At WINNERS, we use a broad definition of addiction because no matter what the substance or behavior that is abused, the process of addiction is the same in every human being.

The two main features are obsession and compulsion. Mental obsession is the concern focused on the substance, relationship, conduct or event which is the focus of addiction in particular. For example, the workaholic thinks obsessively about the things he needs to meet, and their feelings of guilt compel him to seek more. The compulsion is the conduct or behavior that acts on the basis of mental obsession. The twelve hours in the office workaholic is the magnitude of the compulsion of addiction.
