Roof cladding material comparison

It is a type of roofing material which is one of the oldest methods of roofing used by man. She covered the house before our era. However, today tiled roofs do not go out of fashion. Not only have the house with a tiled roof is considered very prestigious. This is not surprising, because the tile has a number of advantages over other materials (Bolt, 1997). Today, one can find two types of natural tile. This is a traditional ceramic (clay) tile and cement-sand (concrete) tiles - a mixture of cement and sand with the addition of mineral pigments. Besides these two types of tile on the market also presents various imitations made from other materials - metal (metal), based on bitumen (soft tile), Polymer tile, metal tile, glass tile, etc (Rich, & Streeter, 1984).

Shingles on the roof Tile - small-sized piece roofing material with a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion and with two vertical locks, so the appearance of cracks is almost impossible. Tile can be used for stone, brick, wooden buildings, both in new construction and renovation. Modern tiles (like ceramic and cement-sand) allows pitched roofs of any complexity - from conventional pitched roofs to the most complex configuration, but it should be remembered that the shape of the roof and often determines the form of tiles used. It is believed that a major limitation in the use of tile is its heavy weight, high-power devices that require additional consumption of rafters and timber under the crate. However, this is not the case. Share their own weight relative to tile design load on the roof structure is not as high compared to, for example, with the snow load. A simple comparison shows that the design load for the roof of a cement-sand tiles only 30% higher than for metal plating. In applying the shingles do not necessarily increase the cross section of the rafters; it suffices to establish the same rafters with a smaller step. For example, if a metal roof rafters needed 150h50mm, 90cm increments, for a tile roof - 150h50mm, 70cm increments.

Selection of tiles First you need to choose between ceramic and cement-sand tile. Ceramic tile more expensive, it is limited to the natural colours of the colour used clay tiles but more elegant and subtle. In the cement-sand tile is much wider range of colours. When choosing tiles for roofing, it is important to consider it from a purely aesthetic point of view: the wave form, depth profile and colour (Roofing, 2005). Ceramic tile (as well as cement and sand) is one of the most durable roofing materials (with a life span of more than 100 years).

Ceramic tiles

Ceramic (clay) tiles - one of the oldest roofing materials. For the manufacture of ceramic tiles, the use of fusible clay is made, which, in contrast to the clay used to make bricks, is fatter and more plastic. Production of ceramic tiles is usually placed next to a quarry, ...
