Introduction

Different cultures provide different ways in which a woman in their society is supposed to react. The picture provided by history reveals that throughout the past in a large number of countries, women were considered as a weaker sex. It leads them to have fewer legal rights and career opportunities as compared to men. Women were generally seen in their general roles of mother and wife and thus were not expected to be an inventor or a professional.

Not only the women were considered inferior, but they were also thought of as an evil and a reason of inducement. Early Christianity disseminated these views. St. Jerome, a 4th-century Latin father of the Christian church, said: "Woman is the gate of the devil, the path of wickedness, the sting of the serpent, in a word a perilous object." (Women's History in America)

The same culture depicts the life of a woman in America in the early era. The opening of opportunities was very limited, although they were given a freedom to enjoy a number of civil rights. Thus, if a woman is provided with an environment where she has a full liberty, it will ultimately lead her to make a number of accomplishments.

This paper presents an example of an African-American women Sarah. Goode whose character and contribution gives an indication that a woman can never be inferior from man despite the number of hurdles they face. Her lifestyle and accomplishments serve as an inspiration for all the following generations.

The following aspects of the paper discuss the role of Sarah.e.Goode as a woman in the American society along with some of the major characteristics of her personality.
