Hypothetical School Improvement Team

Introduction

Majority of students confront learning difficulties in schools due to teaching problems. Parents are very concerned and disappointed when their children have trouble in learning at school. There are many reasons for school failure, but the most common is learning disabilities. The child with learning problems may be highly active in other curricular activities; although he may try hard to follow the instructions of the teacher and pay full attention in class, but may not be able to grasp the information completely (Havelock et al., 2005).

Teachers and parents both work on their part at school and at home; however, despite their efforts, children have great difficulty in learning specific subjects and getting satisfactory grades (Harden et al., 2004). Some children with learning problems cannot sit still or pay attention in class. Learning disabilities affect 15% of school-age children (Wolf et al., 2007). For this, this paper aims at developing an improvement plan for 8th grade students who have difficulties in learning science and mathematics in school. Considering the nature of the problem, a team of parents, school management, and teacher will be formed that will enable to bring up the quality students, while reducing failure rates.

Problem

Main problem that has been addressed through the learning team development in this improvement project plan surrounds increasing the passing rate of 8th grade students in science and mathematics domain. Students have an excellent academic record in other subjects and have been ranked among the first in their particular curriculum. However, majority of them face difficulty in learning and grasping the content of science and mathematics subjects. The main objective of the report is to develop an approach on how to effectively tackle the learning problem of 8th grade students through improvement plan development.

Team Members Needed

Students are involved in their environment; they have distinguished themselves through their individual involvement in various activities. The organization of student activities or learning leadership in a variety of associations or groups, or participating in schooling activities require addressing the fundamental factors that influence the choice of students towards learning and development (Sabar et al., 2007). Concerning the problem sensitivity and implication for parents, team member would consist of following participants. The team that I would develop for the school would consist of: Principal, Teacher, Counselor, Nurse, and a Parent would be the idea team. The areas that they will be focusing on this year are the eighth grade Science and Math.

Objectives of the Team

Students in 8th grade class are young, dynamic and eager to learn. Main objective of the team is to redesign the academic curriculum and assist the children in improving their learning capability for science and mathematics course. Main objective is to enable the student to learn science and mathematics courses covering the context of curriculum management, study design, planning and control of class works, working in the team, and understanding support systems in class learning management.
