Q1 (a): Energy Consumption Cost

We know that

KWh = T x rpm ÷ 9543

And T = 5252 x HP    rpm

KWh X No. of hours used per day X No. of days used in a month = (Value) KWh

Solution

2 Mud pumps consumption

T = 5252 x 434/2100 = 1052.41

KWh = 1052.41 x 2100/9543 = 238.85 KW

2 Mud pumps consumption = 238.85 x 2 = 477.70 x 24 x 30 = 343944 KW

Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal Pump Consumption = 25KWh x 24 x 30 = 18000KW

4 Air Compressors

4 Air compressors Consumption = 4 x 5 x 16 x 30 = 9600 KW

Total Consumption = 343944 + 18000 + 9600 = 371544 KW

Monthly Cost = 371544 x 40 Biaza = 14861760 Biaza

Q1 (b): Types of Pumps used in oil Industry

Progressing Cavity Pumps are used in a wide variety of applications, especially suited for thick and heavy fluids including multiphase gas and solids suspension and under relatively moderate temperatures.

In oil production, these types of pumps are referred to as Downhole Pumps, operating at depths of several thousand feet, pumping oil, usually mixed with other fluids such as gases and sand, to the surface.

Designed to operate "in reverse", or rather, to cause shaft rotation by the supplied differential pressure, such motors are referred to as Mud motors, referring to drilling mud that provides a hydraulic medium to drive the rotor, lubricate the drill bit and remove the debris.

There is no other volume offering such a comprehensive, easy-to-understand and hands-on coverage of these types of pumps. As they become more and more widely used in the petrochemical industry, and other industries, knowledge of their design and application will become increasingly more important for the engineer.

Q2 (a): Block Diagrams - Use of digital Instruments in Oil Rigs

In a drilling rig of drill depth conventional structure, parameters of interest (e.g. rate of penetration and drill bit location, number of stands, monkey board position) are calculated and displayed by a unified electronic system. A weight transducer measures the load of the drill string on the rig. A movement sensor provides information on movement of the hook. An internal clock provides time signals.

Q2 (b) Full adder circuit

A truth table is a mathematical table used in logic—specifically in connection with Boolean algebra, boolean functions, and propositional calculus—to compute the functional values of logical expressions on each of their functional arguments, that is, on each combination of values taken by their logical variables (Enderton 2001). ...
